Misa Nickerson is half Japanese, half American, and has spent a lifetime living between two worlds.
She grew up moving between the U.S. and Japan as an army kid, living in Japan from ages 8 to 15 and again from 2019 to 2022. She speaks Japanese fluently, has raised two fully bilingual daughters, and knows firsthand what it takes to truly absorb a language and culture — not just study it.
As the owner of Mixed Up Mimi LLC, Misa offers private Japanese tutoring for homeschool middle and high school students in the Purcellville, Virginia area. Her teaching draws on lived experience rather than textbook theory — the kind of cultural depth you can only get from someone who actually grew up in it.
She studied International Business and Japanese at the University of Utah and previously worked as a Financial Analyst at BAE Systems and as an Office Coordinator within the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
